Pale Blue to flight test water thruster with D-Orbit

On January 8, Japanese startup Pale Blue revealed a partnership with Italian transportation company D-Orbit to conduct two demonstrations in 2025 featuring an innovative water-fueled thruster. This groundbreaking technology, although smaller than a paperclip, showcases the potential of utilizing water as a propellant for space propulsion, positioning itself as a sustainable alternative to traditional thrusters.

The first demonstration will occur aboard a D-Orbit’s ION satellite transport vehicle, where Pale Blue’s thruster will be put to the test in a real-world space environment. Subsequent demonstrations will aim to validate the efficiency and applicability of this eco-friendly propulsion system, which could have far-reaching implications for satellite operations and future space missions.

Pale Blue’s water thruster offers unique advantages, notably in making space activities more sustainable by reducing reliance on conventional chemical propellants. This aligns with the growing interest in sustainable practices within the space industry, as both companies look to pioneer innovations for greener space exploration.

As the aerospace industry continues to evolve, collaborations like those between Pale Blue and D-Orbit highlight a shared vision for environmentally conscious technological advancements. The upcoming tests will not only provide crucial data for further development but also pave the way for future propulsion systems that utilize renewable resources.

Stay tuned for more updates as these exciting demonstrations approach, bringing us one step closer to a more sustainable future in space exploration.
